Energy Decarb Battery to Power Brisbane Lions
Great to be at Brisbane Lions Brighton Homes Arena today when the CEO of the reigning AFL Champion Club, Greg Swann announced the project with Energy Decarb to install a Community Battery System at the site alongside the Hon Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy.
Energy Decarb is installing and will own and operate the 1400kWh battery at the Lions headquarters in Stage 1 of a much larger project to make Brighton Homes Arena a green stadium including installing 770kW of solar PV.
The Battery Energy Storage System will soak up excess solar during the day and feed it back into the Brisbane Lions operations and the local electricity network during high demand periods.
When the Brisbane Lions are playing televised events at Brighton Homes Arena, the battery will discharge to reduce the peak demand at the site reducing pressure on the electricity network and reducing the Brisbane Lions energy costs.
The Brisbane Lions / Energy Decarb battery is being installed as part of a program co-ordinated by Hydro Tasmania with funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
